London, England & Independence Day

I thought it would be kind of appropriate to post our pictures
from London, England on the 4th of July.

To the credit of both countries, we are now friends rather
than enemies that battled each other long ago.

Royal Guard parade at Buckingham Palace.

This was fun and impressive to watch.

Westminster Abbey

Prince William and Princess Kate were married here.

There was amazing architecture everywhere.

London is a very big and busy city.

Sometimes I felt like I was on a movie set -
it didn't seem real, especially with all of the sounds of the city.

We also walked around Kensington Palace.

This really made me think of Princess Diana and it was rather sad.
This is where she lived after she and Prince Charles separated.

Statue of Queen Victoria outside of Kensington Palace.

Princess Diana Memorial Playground near the palace.

St. Paul's Cathedral where Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married.
It's so huge - you feel like an ant when you're standing near it.

This bridge was built for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
You can see the dome of St. Paul's in the background.

London bridge is in the distance in the photo below.

Here is a closer shot.

Many, many pubs for your enjoyment.

I wonder if they have Prince Albert in a . . . oh never mind!

My daughter and I ventured over to Portobello Road Market
which was close to where we were staying.

Pretty, colorful buildings with lots of shops, food stalls and
restaurants.

I liked the name of this one!

We were really lucky with good weather while we were there.
There's so much to see.
I hope to go back someday.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY EVERYONE!

  1. An amazing trip! I would love to visit London but don't know if that will happen. Your photos are wonderful. Did you bring home any treasures? I spied some antique shops along the way.

  3. Oh, JO!!!! How awesome! Been thinking about you and hoping you were well.

I LOVE your pics! I have never been to England, but my daughter's husband and her in-laws are British citizens. Actually her husband is English but his father was teaching in Berlin, Germany when he was born, so he lives in the US but is dual-citizen of UK and Germany - though they aren't of German descent.

I may have told you that before. Anyway, I can't wait to one day go there - like to see Scotland too while there. I've been to Ireland already.

Wanna get together sometime soon and show me all your pics and tell me lots more about your trip?

    Hugs!

  5. JoAnne this was an amazing trip for you and your family. We are hoping to go next year. My daughter is a big Harry Potter Fan and they are suppose to have a new play about Harry Potter open in the Palace Theatre in the West End next year so it would be fun to go for that and see London. It is on my bucket list.

Blue Kitchen Cabinets 2017

I have done a couple posts on kitchens with blue cabinetry in the past, after all it is my favorite color. It has been awhile though, so today I have rounded up some more  amazing kitchens with cottage style that also incorporate blue in  the design. source The kitchen above and the one below have white upper cabinets and soft shades of blue on the lower ones. This is a nice way to use blue without going overboard or ending up with something that you would get tired of quickly. source source Finding the right shade of blue would be key and using a lot of white and wood tones along with it creates a beautiful and timeless look. source source Isn't the kitchen above just so very unique? It has sort of a french country feeling but in an updated way. Wish there was a better picture of the script that's on the wall  on the right. source This kitchen is from Remodelondo la Casa and I've always thought the w

AFFORDABLE WALL DECOR

Hi Everyone, One of the things I find the most difficult about decorating is finding wall decor that I like and is also affordable. That is one of the main things that I am always on the hunt for and sometimes I have to come up with some creative ideas. Just yesterday, I found this beautiful image of a  white hydrangea at The Graphics Fairy . The Graphics Fairy I printed it out in a size that would fit in a frame that  I already had.  I think it looks so pretty in the simple white frame. I'm probably going to hang it in our bedroom. I'm making a few small changes in there and I will show you when it's completed. This star is actually from the garden section of our local Meijer store.  It was originally silver metal and I spray painted it white. I have seen a lot of people decorate with bread boards. This one fit perfectly in the narrow space between my  cabinet and window and I love the warmth of the wood.  I love th

Family Room Reveal

Hello Everyone! I've been meaning to post about our updated family room for a very long time and I'm  finally doing it - yeah!! I had been ready to replace our brown leather furniture for a while and when a new Ikea opened very close to us last summer, I jumped at the chance to take a good look at their slipcovered furniture. Originally the plan was to buy another sofa and loveseat like we had but when I  saw the Ektorp sectional on the showroom floor at Ikea, I was sold.   It just seemed so cozy and I could really envision it in our family room. As you can see, we purchased the sectional with the white slipcover. You just can't beat the prices at Ikea and the quality is definitely good enough for us. I'm at a point where I don't want to buy expensive furniture that I feel like I have to keep forever.   We even had the sofa delivered and they took away the old sofa and loveseat  for a very small fee. We purchased this dre
