ONE STEP FORWARD AND TWO SQUIRRELS BACK

We have some progress on the exterior part of our  2nd floor remodel project  ~ yeah! I chose the cedar shake style of siding for the dormer. How do you think it looks? The color you see is just the color the siding comes in so I will be choosing colors for the siding and trim. It will be some sort of white/beige/light gray ~ you know, one of the gazillion shades of paint in that category. I'm looking for something to blend in nicely with the stone. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them! Just one little problem (or several) at the moment though. If you look closely at the picture below,  you'll see something that doesn't belong. Do you see it? How about now? See the squirrel in the corner of the portico? Yep, we have squirrels living in our soffit! YIKES!! From inside the house, you can hear them running around. I've always thought squirrels were cute but now they are just really creep

AFFORDABLE WALL DECOR

Hi Everyone, One of the things I find the most difficult about decorating is finding wall decor that I like and is also affordable. That is one of the main things that I am always on the hunt for and sometimes I have to come up with some creative ideas. Just yesterday, I found this beautiful image of a  white hydrangea at The Graphics Fairy . The Graphics Fairy I printed it out in a size that would fit in a frame that  I already had.  I think it looks so pretty in the simple white frame. I'm probably going to hang it in our bedroom. I'm making a few small changes in there and I will show you when it's completed. This star is actually from the garden section of our local Meijer store.  It was originally silver metal and I spray painted it white. I have seen a lot of people decorate with bread boards. This one fit perfectly in the narrow space between my  cabinet and window and I love the warmth of the wood.  I love th

CHEERFUL YELLOW

Do you like yellow? I've always loved how sunny and cheerful it is. Don't you love it on the front door of this sweet little cottage? source So gorgeous on this iron bed ~ it's like a happy surprise in the bedroom. source Even a whole house can look lovely in yellow. source This room just exudes sunshine. source It's a perfect color for farmhouse style furniture  like this linen cabinet . . . source . . . and this cute dresser. source I like how yellow is used as an accent in this room along with the other soft tones. source I think it would take a lot of guts to paint your cabinets yellow but I think it looks stunning here with the dark countertop and hardware. source This would be such a cheerful spot for breakfast ~ I like the little touches of dark brown/black sprinkled around too. source I had to throw this in just because it's so darn cute!!  source I don't

SOFA TABLE HAPPINESS

One of the spots in my home that I have changed  many times is the sofa table in our family room. I never seemed to be satisfied with it and things like that just keep bugging me especially when it's in an area that I see all the time. So you know what that means . .   . . . just keep playing with it until I get it right! ~ here it is today ~ I am pretty much an anti-clutter type of person so I usually keep accessories somewhat to a minimum but for some  reason I like a lot of "stuff" on this table. I really love my chippy window frame and I think it makes a great focal point here. I paid about $22 for it at an antique mall. This pitcher was a birthday gift many years ago. Everything else I have picked up very inexpensively at  Homegoods or various places.  I  think  I will be happy with this for awhile. Do you have an area that keeps bugging you? We all have them, right? I so apprecia

In The Kitchen

Today I felt inspired to share a few pictures of our kitchen. I think it's fun to take pictures from different angles sometimes ~ to see the room  in a different perspective. I change things around in here more than any other room. Probably because I spend so much time in here.  Do you do that? My daughter cut some daffodils from our yard for me this morning. ~ so sweet ~ I took these pictures right after it had rained. I opend the kitchen window and 'The Boss' couldn't resist  the chirping of the birds. { Of course I don't normally allow him on the counter ~ of course not! } Have a wonderful weekend!! ~ JoAnne ~ joining ~ THE CHARM OF HOME ~ HOME SWEET HOME COMMON GROUND ~ BE INSPIRED MY ROMANTIC HOME - SHOW & TELL FRIDAY FRENCH COUNTRY COTTAGE ~ FEATHERED NEST FRIDAY

SECOND FLOOR REMODEL UPDATE

You may have to reach very far back in your memory for this post from November, 2012 where  I talked about our second floor remodel. I barely remember it myself! Sadly, this is not the big reveal but I do  have some progress to show you. We had some delays due to our framer and that's all I'm going to say ~ I will keep my opinions and snarky comments to myself ~ just sayin'! The good news is that we are at the drywall stage  so it's a lot easier to visualize how it's going to look. We started out with this teeny, tiny and very old bathroom. You can't tell from this picture, but because of the sloped ceiling, you almost had to duck your head to take a shower. This bathroom is right above our front door and entryway so we had the idea to add a dormer on the second floor to expand this bathroom. This is what I showed you in November after the work had begun. And this is what we have now! Standin
