Master Bedroom

Recently I shared with you some bedrooms that I love
so today I am going to share our master bedroom and would love
to hear what you think.

This is what you see as you enter the room.
It's not a huge room but it works fine for us.

This is the view from the other side.
The doorway on the right goes into the master bath -
I will try to show that to you soon.

We have two small dressers that double as side tables.

You may recognize the bedding.
It is from Target and I think it is just so pretty.
It is probably too feminine for most hubbies
but mine is really good at going along with what I like.
( It took a few years to get him trained that way : ) !
I really am a girly, girl!

A little vignette on one of the dressers.

 I recently purchased this pillow
with the little white ruffles at TJ Maxx.

I love decorating with plates -
these were purchased at a yard sale.
I like the way they are hung
to imitate the curve of the headboard.

Here is a close up of one of them - I think it's so sweet even with it's little imperfection!

This cute bench is from the same yard sale.

Opposite the bed is this armoir with our tv.
It's nice to be able to close the doors and not see it.

This is actually a chair from our dining room set.
We don't have a dining room in this house
so I'm using one of the armchairs here.

This is actually the back of this pillow.
I like the detail of the scalloped edge and buttons.

I really want to change the paint color.
I'm thinking something light brown maybe similar to the pillow in the picture above.
It's hard to tell from these pictures, but there are some shades of light brown and taupe in the bedding.
I think it would make the room seem more warm and cozy.
What do you think?
If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.
Picking out paint colors can be so overwhelming.  Help!!

BTW - this is a picture of the room when we first looked at this house!

Thanks so much for visiting!

  1. Hi Joanne!

I thinks your bedroom is gorgeous; love everything about it! There's a colour by Bher called Brushed Fur that might be just what you're looking for. Check it out; 3A18-3.

  3. Oh, but I'm envying that nice window you have! We live in a garden home, and there's NO window in the master bedroom at all. I love the way you have it decorated. I'd love to have dressers as end tables. Elevates the lamps to the right height so I can read.

  5. Your room is so pretty and cozy, Joanne. I recognize the comforter from Target...I have often thought of getting it! It's so cute! I think they even have a shower curtain out of the same fabric.

Painting and picking colors is not one of my strong points. I am so indecisive! I like the sound of a taupe color, I think that is soothing. Best of luck!

  9. Stopping by from abeachcottage.

Your master bedroom is really nice and full of nice pieces, but I agree with you - another wall color would probably be better. Personally I am a big fan of white, because that goes with everything, but as you wanted a warmer look that's probably not the color for you. ;-)

  10. Morning Joanne,
I love the comforter on your bed, it looks like a gorgeous Tanya Whelan fabric I have. I am also a big believer in old plates on a wall...that is the first thing I look at when I head to my Salvation Macy's. Such a big decor impact for so little money. How can you not love that?

This looks like a very cozy and calming room...well done my friend.

I love the bedding! Is it Simply Shabby Chic? I also love that adorable little plate. I'm into collecting all kinds of shabby plates these days, there's so much to choose from! Great job, it looks beautiful! Marcia

    Hi Marcia - the bedding is Simply Shabby Chic. It's actually a duvet cover and it came as a set with two pillow shams. I've had it for awhile and still love it! Thanks for stopping by! : }

  13. Gorgeous! And I love how you didn't paint all the furniture white, but kept some in its original finish. You did good! Love the dishes over the headboard too.

I am right there with you about picking paint colors...I can't tell you how many sample size tan paints I bought trying to find the perfect shade.

  22. hey! I love your room :) Love the little elements of pink scattered throughout. Loves blues for the bedroom. So soothing and restful. We've gone for a similar theme in our master bedroom that I redid in January. I have plates over the bed too :) Check it out http://sweetmamaduck.blogspot.com/2011/01/bedroom-re-vamp.html
I think something like Dulux's hogsbristle colour for your walls would look great... it's a soft, but brings so much warmth!! it goes really well with antique white for the architraves and trim. Have fun!!

Blue Kitchen Cabinets 2017

I have done a couple posts on kitchens with blue cabinetry in the past, after all it is my favorite color. It has been awhile though, so today I have rounded up some more  amazing kitchens with cottage style that also incorporate blue in  the design. source The kitchen above and the one below have white upper cabinets and soft shades of blue on the lower ones. This is a nice way to use blue without going overboard or ending up with something that you would get tired of quickly. source source Finding the right shade of blue would be key and using a lot of white and wood tones along with it creates a beautiful and timeless look. source source Isn't the kitchen above just so very unique? It has sort of a french country feeling but in an updated way. Wish there was a better picture of the script that's on the wall  on the right. source This kitchen is from Remodelondo la Casa and I've always thought the w

AFFORDABLE WALL DECOR

Hi Everyone, One of the things I find the most difficult about decorating is finding wall decor that I like and is also affordable. That is one of the main things that I am always on the hunt for and sometimes I have to come up with some creative ideas. Just yesterday, I found this beautiful image of a  white hydrangea at The Graphics Fairy . The Graphics Fairy I printed it out in a size that would fit in a frame that  I already had.  I think it looks so pretty in the simple white frame. I'm probably going to hang it in our bedroom. I'm making a few small changes in there and I will show you when it's completed. This star is actually from the garden section of our local Meijer store.  It was originally silver metal and I spray painted it white. I have seen a lot of people decorate with bread boards. This one fit perfectly in the narrow space between my  cabinet and window and I love the warmth of the wood.  I love th

Family Room Reveal

Hello Everyone! I've been meaning to post about our updated family room for a very long time and I'm  finally doing it - yeah!! I had been ready to replace our brown leather furniture for a while and when a new Ikea opened very close to us last summer, I jumped at the chance to take a good look at their slipcovered furniture. Originally the plan was to buy another sofa and loveseat like we had but when I  saw the Ektorp sectional on the showroom floor at Ikea, I was sold.   It just seemed so cozy and I could really envision it in our family room. As you can see, we purchased the sectional with the white slipcover. You just can't beat the prices at Ikea and the quality is definitely good enough for us. I'm at a point where I don't want to buy expensive furniture that I feel like I have to keep forever.   We even had the sofa delivered and they took away the old sofa and loveseat  for a very small fee. We purchased this dre
