Family Room Reveal

Hello Everyone!

I've been meaning to post about our updated family room for a very long time and I'm
 finally doing it - yeah!!

I had been ready to replace our brown leather furniture for a while and when a new
Ikea opened very close to us last summer, I jumped at the chance to take a good look at their
slipcovered furniture.
Originally the plan was to buy another sofa and loveseat like we had but when I
saw the Ektorp sectional on the showroom floor at Ikea, I was sold.
It just seemed so cozy and I could really envision it in our family room.

As you can see, we purchased the sectional with the white slipcover.
You just can't beat the prices at Ikea and the quality is definitely good enough for us.
I'm at a point where I don't want to buy expensive furniture that I feel like I
have to keep forever.
We even had the sofa delivered and they took away the old sofa and loveseat
 for a very small fee.

We purchased this dresser from Wayfair to use as a TV console
and also for more storage.
It seems we can never have enough space for all those electronics,
chargers, games, etc., right?
I replaced the knobs with some white porcelain ones to tie in with
the other white pieces in the room.

This console table is also from Wayfair a while back and of course
I have fun changing around the accessories quite often.

We also purchased the Ektorp chair and ottoman and I chose the Lofallet beige
slipcover for those pieces.
It's a really nice color and I like the little bit of contrast between the chair
and the sofa.

The mantel is decked out for summer using an old window I found
at an antique shop while on vacation this year.

I actually found this coffee table on Etsy.
It was already painted just like this and it's the perfect size .
The two leaves can be lifted up as well to make it larger and for things like
putting together a puzzle.

Kind of a funny story about this coffee table.
It was shipped to us via Greyhound bus all the way from California (we live in Ohio).
I had no idea there was such a thing as shipping via Greyhound but there is
 and it's very economical.
Including shipping, I paid right around $200 for this cute table.
I did have to drive downtown to the Greyhound station to pick it up but
my son went with me and it was super easy.

This little table was found on Craigslist several years ago.

I'm really loving the blue and white color scheme in the room and it's so much more
my personal style now.
I've had a lot of fun with different pillows, throws and accessories.
We would still like to replace the old windows in here and then
I might add some sort of window treatment but other than that,
I'm very happy with the room.

My family loves hanging out in here.
It's light and bright and very comfortable.
The slipcovers wash up so easily too - they might not come
out completely pristine but they're pretty close and I'm ok with that.

I'm so happy you came by today and I hope you like the new look
of our family room.

  5. That looks just great! I's a really nice makeover. My mom has just redecorated her kitchen with some help from http://www.thehomeexpert.uk/ and she's sooo pleased with the effect. Ugly 80's style kitchen was changed into a stylish modern room. Can't remember last time my mom enjoyed cooking so much!

A HOUSE ON A LAKE

Many of us dream of having a beach house but when you don't live anywhere near the ocean, a house on a lake might be a more realistic possibility. Lake houses or cabins tend to be a little more rustic and cozy, I think, and there's something to be said for being surrounded by tall trees, the sounds of nature, and possibly a few critters. Here are a few lake houses I found on Houzz.   Some small, some bigger, some more rustic than others. Take a look and let me know what you think.
