Family Room Reveal

Hello Everyone! I've been meaning to post about our updated family room for a very long time and I'm  finally doing it - yeah!! I had been ready to replace our brown leather furniture for a while and when a new Ikea opened very close to us last summer, I jumped at the chance to take a good look at their slipcovered furniture. Originally the plan was to buy another sofa and loveseat like we had but when I  saw the Ektorp sectional on the showroom floor at Ikea, I was sold.   It just seemed so cozy and I could really envision it in our family room. As you can see, we purchased the sectional with the white slipcover. You just can't beat the prices at Ikea and the quality is definitely good enough for us. I'm at a point where I don't want to buy expensive furniture that I feel like I have to keep forever.   We even had the sofa delivered and they took away the old sofa and loveseat  for a very small fee. We purchased...

New Sofa Table and Old Screen Door

I have been looking for a new sofa table for the long wall in our family room and I'm happy to say that I finally found one that I love.   This table is 60" wide and is a much better fit than the 48" table I had.  I found it on the Wayfair site and I got it for a great price so that made me even happier. Of course the best part was accessorizing it after it arrived. I decided to try some baskets on the wall above the table and I really  like how they look and all of the texture that they add. Some old books are always a great accessory. The original knobs were nickel and I decided to change them  out with some wooden ones that I found at Target. The bottom shelf was fun to decorate as well. This is such a long wall that I decided to fill it in even more with this old screen door that I've had forever but  had never found a good place for it. I had to dress it up a little too so I added ...

Home For The Holidays ~ Entry, Family Room and Kitchen

I have always loved the phrase "Home for the Holidays". Even though we are taking a short trip right before Christmas, we will be back in time to enjoy Christmas at home. Of course, home can be wherever the people I love will be. That's the most important thing and the most necessary ingredient. But I don't mind if it also includes a cute little reindeer. And a decorated mantel. A Christmas tree, of course. Pretty packages. And a cozy kitchen with little bits of Christmas sprinkled around. Christmas also includes our cute kitty with visions of sugarplums dancing in his little head . . . or kitty treats, whichever. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by. I know there are so many beautiful homes to visit right now. Hope your Christmas is Merry and Bright! JoAnne - joining - NESTING PLACE ~ CHRISTMAS TOUR OF HOMES 2016

Family Room Tour

Hello Everyone, In my last post I shared how we finally finished and installed a mantel on our family room fireplace.   I have been making some smaller changes as well so I though I would  show you a tour of how the room looks now. It's mostly just accessories and little tweaks here and there that are making this a room I am much happier with. I finally found some checked pillows in my favorite shade of blue. I have been looking for pillows like these forever and I'm so happy I finally found them. I just love checks and to me, they really embody the cottage style. The long wall behind the love seat is always a challenge for me. I knew I wanted to use my old window but I needed more to fill in the large space. I finally came up with this arrangement (after much trial and error) using things I already had. I really wanted something interesting and a little different to look at. A new lamp on my round s...
