Getting Personal ~ A Perfect Introvert

Hi Everyone,

I have never really talked about anything very personal on my blog but
there have been times that I have wanted to but I guess I felt a bit hesitant.
It probably has something to do with the topic that I would like to
talk with you about today.

I have gradually started to feel more and more brave to do so
because all of you in blogland are such nice, caring, compassionate people.
I would feel comfortable to have any one of you in my home ~ seriously!
(Well, except there is this one blogger ~ NO, NO, just kidding!!)

I would like to talk to you about being an introvert and I have included
some photos from around my house because I couldn't possibly do a post
that is completely decorating free!  ; }

I happened upon a post written by Monica at The White Bench entitled

Monica says,
"According to the Myers and Briggs Foundation, there are two main psychological types- extroverts that like to spend time in the outer world and get their energy from active involvment in events and having a lot of different activities, feel comfortable in groups and savor social interaction.  Introverts, often wrongly associated with shyness, on the contrary like to spend time alone or with one or two people they feel comfortable with and get their energy from the inner world of ideas and images. Interacting with people drains them, while staying alone recharges their batteries."

Wow, I could really relate to this.
I was very quiet and reserved as a young girl.
I have come out of my shell a lot as I have gotten older but I still prefer spending
time with my family or just a few friends as opposed to large gatherings or parties.
I actually get somewhat nervous and feel a bit uncomfortable in large groups.
I absolutely need time to be alone with my thoughts and ideas,
 quiet time to reenergize.

Throughout my life, I have often felt that there was something wrong
with being quiet and enjoying time alone.
That I would prefer to stay home on a Saturday night than go to a big party.

So for me, it is so nice to know that there are
 many other introverts among us
and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

That it is totally normal to like time to myself
and to be alone with my thoughts.

Monica sums it up perfectly,
"Fortunately, at a certain point of my life, I have started to realize
there was nothing wrong with me. I am perfect the way I am."

You can read Monica's entire post HERE.

Can any of you relate to this?
I would love to hear from you and hear your
thoughts on being an introvert!

  3. Hi Jo Anne!

I understand... I get overwhelmed with too much noise and commotion in a large gathering. I don't get the impression that you are lacking in confidence, but just happily content to be quiet.

However, I just shared a great short video today that really hit home. I don't usually leave links in comments but I think this one can be the exception. I hope you don't mind :)

You are very perceptive, Bunny Jean ~ I am content but it has taken a long time to get there. I loved the video ~ thanks so much for sending the link. Words are so very powerful and it's good to remind ourselves. Loved the kitty/batman picture!

  4. I feel just as you do. I am working with the public all day long. I love nothing more than going home and spending time with my dogs. I am a homebody and proud of it.

  6. I completely relate to what you are writing about! As I have gotten older it has become easier, but even today I prefer to spend time at home with my family and I'm still oftentimes quiet in a group setting. But I've also become comfortable with who I am... there are times when I've wished I was different, but the older I get the more I appreciate others who, although quiet, have a smile on their face and a peaceful spirit. Thanks for sharing... I enjoyed your post!

I knew I had some kindred spirits out there! I wonder if there is a correlation between being introverted and also being nesters who love to take care of our homes and make them a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Andrea!

  8. I read Monica's post and totally agreed with it all. My introverted ways actually started after I turned 40. No more crazy loud gatherings. I prefer cozy and intimate. And take even more time to be by myself. While others are running around like crazy searching for something out there ... I am enjoying the peace and quiet of home. :) Happy August to you! Tammy

You make such a good point, Tammy! We often look "out there" for something that is really right in front of us (or within us) all along.

  9. You are right! Our posts sound much alike. It's nice to know that there are other people who understand how I feel. Most of the people I am around, family and friends, are very pushy about always doing things. And yes, as I get older, it's just not me and that's ok.

Blue Kitchen Cabinets 2017

I have done a couple posts on kitchens with blue cabinetry in the past, after all it is my favorite color. It has been awhile though, so today I have rounded up some more  amazing kitchens with cottage style that also incorporate blue in  the design. source The kitchen above and the one below have white upper cabinets and soft shades of blue on the lower ones. This is a nice way to use blue without going overboard or ending up with something that you would get tired of quickly. source source Finding the right shade of blue would be key and using a lot of white and wood tones along with it creates a beautiful and timeless look. source source Isn't the kitchen above just so very unique? It has sort of a french country feeling but in an updated way. Wish there was a better picture of the script that's on the wall  on the right. source This kitchen is from Remodelondo la Casa and I've always thought the w

AFFORDABLE WALL DECOR

Hi Everyone, One of the things I find the most difficult about decorating is finding wall decor that I like and is also affordable. That is one of the main things that I am always on the hunt for and sometimes I have to come up with some creative ideas. Just yesterday, I found this beautiful image of a  white hydrangea at The Graphics Fairy . The Graphics Fairy I printed it out in a size that would fit in a frame that  I already had.  I think it looks so pretty in the simple white frame. I'm probably going to hang it in our bedroom. I'm making a few small changes in there and I will show you when it's completed. This star is actually from the garden section of our local Meijer store.  It was originally silver metal and I spray painted it white. I have seen a lot of people decorate with bread boards. This one fit perfectly in the narrow space between my  cabinet and window and I love the warmth of the wood.  I love th

Family Room Reveal

Hello Everyone! I've been meaning to post about our updated family room for a very long time and I'm  finally doing it - yeah!! I had been ready to replace our brown leather furniture for a while and when a new Ikea opened very close to us last summer, I jumped at the chance to take a good look at their slipcovered furniture. Originally the plan was to buy another sofa and loveseat like we had but when I  saw the Ektorp sectional on the showroom floor at Ikea, I was sold.   It just seemed so cozy and I could really envision it in our family room. As you can see, we purchased the sectional with the white slipcover. You just can't beat the prices at Ikea and the quality is definitely good enough for us. I'm at a point where I don't want to buy expensive furniture that I feel like I have to keep forever.   We even had the sofa delivered and they took away the old sofa and loveseat  for a very small fee. We purchased this dre
