MY SON'S NOTHIN' FANCY BEDROOM

We recently updated our 16 year old son's room.
It really needed a paint job and just freshened up.
Nothin' fancy.
No planked walls or chevron designs.

He's actually very sentimental and likes to be
surrounded by the things he loves and that
have good memories for him.

His favorite sports teams, Star Wars, Legos, books,
maps from his favorite video games are just
a few of the things he has loved over the years.

don't get me started ~ the tears will start to roll

He informed me that he likes modern design.
Really?

such a traitor : )

So I tried to incorporate a lot of white with his
traditional furniture to give it a more modern feel.

We purchased his dresser and beds when he was 5 years old.
The beds were originally configured as bunk beds.
At one point, I mentioned to him that maybe
we could look for different bedroom furniture that
would be more modern.
He said "I think my furniture is fine."

see?  mister sentimental !

His desk and chair are from Ikea and luckily
fit perfectly at the end of his bed.

His room has this large window that looks out over our backyard.
He has a gorgeous view of the Dogwood tree which is blooming now.

i'm sure he doesn't even notice

His room is small so we use the closet space for his dresser.
Most of his clothes are kept in the drawers and the
little bit of dressy clothes he has are in another closet.

These throw pillows are really for me.
They're from Homegoods and I love them.
I think they give the room a little pizazz.

you know he's going to make his bed everyday
and place the pillow ever so perfectly ~ ha

It's was a labor of love for the sweetest son
a mama could ever have!

~ Thanks for coming by ~
Have a great day!

  1. I love simple and I think this room is perfect for a 16 year old boy:) Love the blue and green combo and the pillows are a nice touch:)

  2. I think it's an awesome room, perfectly fancy enough for a teen boy. Why do we think everything has to be super "done" to be fancy? I'm guilty too, but that's not realistic. The colours are great and I love the view.

  3. I like hearing about sentimental teenage boys :) My son is only 6, but I can already see those tendencies in him, too. The room looks just great, and what a special view out that window!

  5. Did you say nothing fancy? Well, it may not be fancy but it is a beautiful room. I love the serene feel of it and I LOVE that he loves his boyhood set of beds. Great idea on the closet space. That makes so much sense for a boy.
He sounds like a wonderful son..what a blessing- xo Diana

  7. It looks great / love the bedding colors and the pops of green here and there and the dresser in the closet is a great idea

So...all the clothes that teenagers leave on the floor are under the bed, right? :)

  9. I love the colors, so crisp! I really love the comment he made about modern design...my daughter has made the exact same statements, as she sits in my county cottage home!!!

  10. This is such a nice room, and Iove that your son is sentimental! If I could keep my kids' room as neat as this one for more than 5 minutes, I would show them off too--sigh! :)

  13. Your son's room came out beautifully. I love the wall color!! I truly could go crazy in Ikea and HomeGoods. Two of my favorite places to shop!! Your dogwood looks so pretty. We have one in our backyard as well. Last year it didn't bloom very well and we thought it was on its last leg but it's made a beautiful return this year and has more blooms on it than I've probably ever seen before. We had such a harsh winter this year but everything has come back nicely and is thriving. So nice to see after such a cold and gray winter!! xo

Hi. I think you did a great job on that room. I was wondering if there is a separate closet? Or do you need to hang anything? We got new flooring and I dread hanging up closet doors. They are always open and the closets a mess. I like what you did there.

Okay I read every word. I am going to do this too! My boys have a total of 8 things that need to be hung. What a space saver. So smart.

Blue Kitchen Cabinets 2017

I have done a couple posts on kitchens with blue cabinetry in the past, after all it is my favorite color. It has been awhile though, so today I have rounded up some more  amazing kitchens with cottage style that also incorporate blue in  the design. source The kitchen above and the one below have white upper cabinets and soft shades of blue on the lower ones. This is a nice way to use blue without going overboard or ending up with something that you would get tired of quickly. source source Finding the right shade of blue would be key and using a lot of white and wood tones along with it creates a beautiful and timeless look. source source Isn't the kitchen above just so very unique? It has sort of a french country feeling but in an updated way. Wish there was a better picture of the script that's on the wall  on the right. source This kitchen is from Remodelondo la Casa and I've always thought the w

Family Room Reveal

Hello Everyone! I've been meaning to post about our updated family room for a very long time and I'm  finally doing it - yeah!! I had been ready to replace our brown leather furniture for a while and when a new Ikea opened very close to us last summer, I jumped at the chance to take a good look at their slipcovered furniture. Originally the plan was to buy another sofa and loveseat like we had but when I  saw the Ektorp sectional on the showroom floor at Ikea, I was sold.   It just seemed so cozy and I could really envision it in our family room. As you can see, we purchased the sectional with the white slipcover. You just can't beat the prices at Ikea and the quality is definitely good enough for us. I'm at a point where I don't want to buy expensive furniture that I feel like I have to keep forever.   We even had the sofa delivered and they took away the old sofa and loveseat  for a very small fee. We purchased this dre

AFFORDABLE WALL DECOR

Hi Everyone, One of the things I find the most difficult about decorating is finding wall decor that I like and is also affordable. That is one of the main things that I am always on the hunt for and sometimes I have to come up with some creative ideas. Just yesterday, I found this beautiful image of a  white hydrangea at The Graphics Fairy . The Graphics Fairy I printed it out in a size that would fit in a frame that  I already had.  I think it looks so pretty in the simple white frame. I'm probably going to hang it in our bedroom. I'm making a few small changes in there and I will show you when it's completed. This star is actually from the garden section of our local Meijer store.  It was originally silver metal and I spray painted it white. I have seen a lot of people decorate with bread boards. This one fit perfectly in the narrow space between my  cabinet and window and I love the warmth of the wood.  I love th
