OUR HOUSE 7 YEARS AGO AND NOW ~ PART 1

I had totally forgotten about these pictures that we took
when we looked at our house for the first time.
Those were the days before blogging so I didn't take a lot of pictures
but I'm glad I have these.

I thought it would be fun to show the changes we have made in 7 years.
I tried to take current photos from the same angle as the old ones.
So the before photos show the furniture and decor of the
previous owners.

The old dining area was pretty large so fortunately it gave us enough space to
expand the kitchen and still have plenty of room for an eating area.
I remember how whenever we opened the dishwasher door it hit against the
hardware on the cabinets.

The old cabinets had been painted white but it wasn't the greatest paint job.
I did think the little shelves on the sides of the cabinets were cute, though.

With water damage and poor function, we decided to gut
the kitchen and start over.

The sink was relocated as well.

This area is to the right of our dining area.
It was previously used as a small living room and as you can see,
we use it for our computer desk and as a sort of mudroom area.
The door to the garage is just to the left of the coat hooks.
in reality, it's the area where everyone dumps there stuff when they come home  : (
There wasn't access to the backyard other than going through the garage so
we replaced the large window with sliding glass doors.

I think our living/family room looks so different with just cosmetic changes.

This full bath was off of the hallway leading to the master bedroom.
It is now our powder room, entered from the foyer area.

It's so rewarding to look at these pictures and see all that we've done.
It can get discouraging when we think about all of the things we would still like to do

I'll have more to show you of the master bedroom, bathroom and the
 second floor in another post.
i know you can't wait - ha ha!

Thanks A Bunch For Visiting!

  19. You made some really nice changes. I especially love the enlarged kitchen. Seems there are only large kitchens in the new homes that are being built. It's nice if you have have the space and creative ideas to make it bigger. Love your cabinets! I like what you did with the family room area, too. Everything looks fresh and casual and pretty!! Looking forward to Part 2!

A HOUSE ON A LAKE

Many of us dream of having a beach house but when you don't live anywhere near the ocean, a house on a lake might be a more realistic possibility. Lake houses or cabins tend to be a little more rustic and cozy, I think, and there's something to be said for being surrounded by tall trees, the sounds of nature, and possibly a few critters. Here are a few lake houses I found on Houzz.   Some small, some bigger, some more rustic than others. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Home For The Holidays ~ Entry, Family Room and Kitchen

I have always loved the phrase "Home for the Holidays". Even though we are taking a short trip right before Christmas, we will be back in time to enjoy Christmas at home.

Of course, home can be wherever the people I love will be.
That's the most important thing and the most necessary ingredient.

But I don't mind if it also includes a cute little reindeer.

And a decorated mantel.

A Christmas tree, of course.

Pretty packages.

And a cozy kitchen with little bits of Christmas sprinkled around.

Christmas also includes our cute kitty with visions of sugarplums dancing
in his little head . . . or kitty treats, whichever.

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by.
I know there are so many beautiful homes to visit right now.

Hope your Christmas is Merry and Bright!

Farmhouse Style In My Kitchen

Wow! Farmhouse style has really taken off, hasn't it? I love it just as much as many of you out there. One of the great things about it is that it's fairly easy to add  to your decor and it can be relatively inexpensive too.
Here are a few recent finds for my kitchen that I think give it a little more of that farmhouse feeling.

Now this one is pretty obvious considering it has the word "FARM" right on it  : ) This came from a little shop I went to while we were on vacation  and it really inspired me to add a few more farmhouse style accessories.

I have admired these vintage scales forever and I finally found one on Ebay  that I thought would look great in my kitchen and was also a reasonable price. Boy, some of them are really pricey!

Any good farmhouse has to have a rooster, right? A quick little project I did was add blue grain sack stripes to this white wooden rooster. I think he is pretty proud of them!

Of course mason jars and pretty little flowers bring on th…
